Learning Objectives
After successful completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Restate expert opinion regarding recent changes to the standard of care for patients with Crohn’s Disease
- Recall the mechanism of action of biologic therapies and how they interfere with the cascade of biochemical events involved in the inflammatory response.
- Advise a young patient hospitalized with active Crohn’s Disease on the risks and benefits of early use of biologic therapies.
- Counsel a middle-aged patient who has undergone ileocolonic resection for Crohn’s Disease on the risks and benefits of antiTNF therapy to prevent postoperative recurrence
- Evaluate recent clinical research advances as they apply to patients with Crohn’s Disease, and provide a higher level of care.
