Learning Objectives
After completing this educational activity, the learner should be better able to:
- Identify challenges related to determining an optimal continuum of care for patients with advanced stage rectal cancer
- Discuss current and emerging treatments for patients with stage III rectal cancer
- Distinguish between treatment options for synchronous metastatic rectal cancer versus metasynchronous metastatic rectal cancer
- Develop an appropriate management regimen for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer with synchronous low volume metastatic disease based on pathologic staging and treatment history
- Explain the issues that complicate the lines of treatment for patients with previously untreated metastatic rectal cancer
- Identify new therapies available for those with advanced metastatic rectal cancer and determine patient eligibility based on type and timing of previous therapies
