Learning Objectives
After completing this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Restate expert opinion regarding the epidemiology, etiology, and diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Advise a young female patient of risks associated with oral contraceptives, tobacco smoke, prescription drugs, and immunomodulators
  • Counsel a female patient who desires to become pregnant regarding issues related to fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding
  • Explain to a menopausal patient the importance of colorectal cancer screening, the role of hormone replacement therapy, and risks of osteoporosis
  • Evaluate recent research studies as they apply to women with IBD, and provide a higher level of patient care

This learning activity has been designated for 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credits commensurate with the extent of their participation in this activity.

Target Audience
This activity is intended for gastroenterologists, obstetricians, gynecologists, internists, nurses, surgeons, clinical researchers, and other health care professionals with an interest in the treatment of female patients with IBD.
